About

An aspiring fantasy author from Auckland, New Zealand.

I was born in Pyatigorsk, Russia. After graduating from Pyatigorsk State Linguistic University as a specialist in cross-cultural communication in four foreign languages (English, German, French and Spanish), I moved to Auckland, New Zealand, where I got Masters in Professional Accounting from Auckland University of Technology. I know what you think, “Aren’t accountants boring?”

I have always been passionate about reading and writing. I’ve been composing poems since the age of seven, and wrote and illustrated my first short story when I was twelve. Since then, I wrote numerous poems, short stories, comics and even song lyrics for metal bands I used to play in, as well as columns for my faculty newspaper.

I found an outlet for my creativity in a number of ways throughout the years and reached a range of people with my stories. I led a blog on Liveinternet during my teenage years noting down my abstract thoughts on life (which I won’t link because it is too embarrassing), built a community on my Instagram blog ‘Natalia New Zealand’ and my YouTube channel ‘Natalia NZ’ where I regularly share stories about my life in New Zealand and my immigration journey. I also created a separate Instagram page ‘Gift of Books’ to promote reading and review the best books I come across.

It’s thanks to all the positive feedback on my Instagram posts that I realised how much I actually loved writing. Recently I decided to take my passion to the next level and am now working of a full scale fantasy novel in English. I have no idea what I am going to do with it once I finish and, yes, I realise how crazy this endeavour is, especially considering that English is not my first language. But it brings me joy and excitement, and lets me experience an adventure through writing the story.
